Legacy software modernization

We move old systems to modern, supported platforms one piece at a time, so the business keeps running while the software underneath it changes.

Good fit if

  • Businesses running on software built 10 or more years ago
  • Systems only one person still understands
  • Applications blocked from the cloud, mobile or integrations by their age

What we do

System audit
Code, dependencies, data and the business rules hidden in them, written down before anything changes.
Incremental rewrite
An API in front of the old system, then features moved across one at a time until nothing depends on the original.
Data and database upgrades
Schema cleanup and migration to a modern SQL or NoSQL database, with both systems kept in sync during the transition.
New interface
A modern web or mobile front end on top, so users see improvements early.

How it runs

Inside our standard process: written scope, two-week sprints with demos, and a proper handover.

  1. 1

    System analysis

Architecture, dependencies, risks and a map of what the system really does.

  2. 2

    Modernization plan

Order of migration, target platform, timeline and cost.

  3. 3

    Execute and cut over

Staged migration with testing and rollback at every step, ending in a switch with no downtime.

Tools

VB6, Classic ASP, PHP, .NET Framework, C++, SQL Server, modern .NET, Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud

Questions

Do we have to stop using the old system during the migration?

No. The old and new systems run side by side, and the switch happens one piece at a time.

Is a full rewrite ever the right call?

Sometimes, for small systems. For anything the business depends on daily, an incremental approach is almost always safer.

Tell us what’s broken, or what you want to build.

You’ll talk to an engineer. If we aren’t the right fit, we’ll tell you and suggest who might be.
